4 Ways to Reduce Anxiety Without Medication

4 Ways to Reduce Anxiety Without Medication

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States. Those who suffer from anxiety know that medicating with anti-depressants isn’t ideal.

If you are struggling with anxiety relief, here are some recommended ways to reduce anxiety* and improve your quality of life.

Meditation

Meditation is a proven practice for increasing mental strength. It seems like it would be easy, but it can be extremely difficult! Being quiet and alone with your thoughts normally isn’t an anxious person’s ideal situation. A good way to incorporate this into your daily routine is to set aside at least 5 minutes a day (at the same time every day) to connect with your body. We recommend using an app like Headspace or Calm when you are just starting.

Move

Exercise is probably not something you want to do when your mind is racing but even moving your body for 30 minutes can improve your mental state. Physical activity raises endorphins and serotonin levels to help you feel better, emotionally. That’s why so many people use exercise as a release when they are feeling down.

Sleep

This is a tricky one because anxiety causes restlessness but sleep deprivation worsens anxiety. It’s a terrible cycle to be caught in. The best way to end this cycle is to build healthy sleep habits. This starts with checking your sleep hygiene, which includes eliminating light and noise, making your bed more comfortable, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol in the afternoon and evening.

CBD

This is one that we can help with. CBD tinctures for anxiety relief are loved by many. Loyal users claim to experience improved quality of life. It’s been shown to improve sleep patterns (yes, another tip on our list!) and reduce anxiety. CBD can be added to food or drinks or taken on its own. These methods of reducing anxiety are lifestyle changes. They are not one and done methods, but rather ways to improve your life as a whole. You likely will not observe changes immediately, but if you stick with these methods, you could experience some drastic changes in your life.
